Large file transfer

Using large file transfer

Send large files with a link. Recipients don't need a UNIHUB account; they just open the link. Files are deleted automatically when the link expires.

What large file transfer is

Send big files with a single link

Open it from the cloud icon at the top right of the chat screen (or Business → "Large file transfer"). Choose files and press "Upload and create link" to get a download link (/d/…). Share that link by email or chat.

  • Recipients don't need to sign in
  • You can add a password (optional, 4+ characters). Share the password separately from the link (by phone or another message)
  • With a password, file names and the message stay hidden until the password is entered

How much you can send, and for how long

PlanTotal per transferLongest periodTotal the organization can keep at once
Free2GB7 days5GB
Starter20GB14 days100GB
Pro100GB30 days500GB
Business200GB30 days2TB
  • During the 7-day free trial after signing up, you get the Business limits
  • Up to 100 files per transfer
  • Keep the page open while uploading (closing it stops the upload). Transfers that never finish uploading are deleted automatically after 1 day

When it expires

Files are deleted automatically

When the period ends, the files can no longer be downloaded from the link, and an hourly cleanup deletes them (in any case, within 35 days of upload). Deleted files can't be recovered. Ask recipients to save the files before then.

  • Before it expires, the sender and the organization's owners and admins can delete it with "Delete". The link stops working right away
  • The record (title, file names, sizes, download count, expiry) stays. File contents don't

DownloadAnyone with the link (and the password, if one is set)
  • If the sender leaves the organization, their links stop working
  • The link is shown only on that screen. On the device you sent from, you can copy it again from "Copy link" in the list

Storage and safety

  • Files are stored in Cloudflare's storage (R2). Uploads and downloads use short-lived tickets issued by UNIHUB (15 minutes for uploading; for downloading, 10 minutes or until the link expires, whichever comes first)
  • The download page is not indexed by search engines. Only people with the link can open it
  • Passwords are not stored as-is (only a value used to check them is stored)
